CVF Main Features

* Modular Design for Total Focusing Flexibility

The CVF Series II can easily be customized by the user to  focus precisely on any object, day or night, with any 35mm camera.

◦ Several different  lupes may be interchanged to establish a preferred  field of view and proper magnification;

◦ Interchangeable focusing screens are available for photographing specific types of objects;

◦ 35mm camera mounts for different camera brands may be swapped in at any time, and use the very same focusing screens and CVF Series II body.

Focusing screens, lupes and bayonets may be used in any combination preferred by the user.  The CVF Series II is truly a high performance, easy-to-customize focuser.

* Interchangeable Focusing Screens

Several different focusing screens are available for the CVF Series II. Each was designed with a  specific application in mind.  All patterned screens have identical glass thicknesses to guarantee maintenance of backfocus distance, and are computer-etched with evaporated black chromium to guarantee high contrast, extreme precision marking, and a long performance life.

Cross-hair Screen:  The basic cross-hair on clear glass screen is useful in any application, but is especially suitable for solar focusing where very little contrast is available from the object itself. For focusing on sunspots, its performance is surpassed only by the True Knife-edge screen.

Hybrid Knife-edge Screen:  The black chromium knife-edge screen may be used extremely effectively for both solar photography and for deep-sky photography.  The large clear circular area  bordered by a black frame provides a large area of contrast for solar focusing, and the precision knife-edge is the ultimate tool for focusing on pinpoint light sources such as stars.  The black chromium edge used is one thousand times thinner than the edge of a razor blade.

Black Chromium 300 LPI Ronchi Screen:  High resolution ronchi screens are best suited for focusing on deep-sky objects and may only be used a night when a pinpoint source of light is available.

Focusing screens are held in place by a helical focusing tube assembly in the modular camera mount  The position of the focusing tube is calibrated to match the exact backfocus/film-plane distance of your camera. to within .001mm of the factory specification. A calibration quality certificate reflecting the SPC analysis accompanies each CVF Series II

 While the CVF Series II comes pre-calibrated to use out of the box, the position of the focusing tube can easily be adjusted by the user for special applications, if desired.  With the CVF Series II there is never any guesswork about where perfect focus is.

Note: Series IV 'Stiletto' modular mounts with ronchi screens will also function with the CVF.  Just screw one into the CVF body and you're ready for deep-sky imaging!

* Interchangeable Magnifying Lupes

High Magnification minimizes focusing errors caused by the eye itself. Whether nearsighted, farsighted, or astigmatic, high magnification reduces eye error.

Two adjustable focusing lupes - 10x and 22x - are currently available for the CVF Series II.  The standard CVF Series II package includes both 10x and 22x lupes. .  Lupes are custom-made by the same manufacturer of  Meade, Celestron, and Bushnell optics.

These special lupes do guarantee bright and clear images.  In fact, CVF light loss is much lower than the camera's own factory viewfinder. No intermediate optical reduction elements or mirrors are in its image train. The image falls directly, and first, on the  CVF focusing screen before magnification.

This approach to focusing also outperforms built-in DSLR zoom features and add-on devices hands-down. Most eyeglass wearers can even use the CVF Series II without glasses. And, the CVF Series II works at any f/ratio with any telescope, microscope, or camera lens!

Exclusive 10x,16x,and 22x Eyepiece Lupes * Why It Works  In a nutshell, the existing view screen in your camera, whether DSLR or film, does not provide enough magnification and contrast for your eye to obtain perfect resolution during focusing.  Your eye compensates for an out-of-focus image automatically by up to 3%.  Consequently, while focus may appear to be perfect to your eye, it is not at the exact focal plane expected by the film or chip in your camera.  The result is a blurry image lacking definition. By providing enhanced contrast with specialized focusing screens along with high magnification, the CVF Series II radically reduces the error of your eye down to around only .2 %.

* Interchangeable 35mm Camera Mounts

The CVF  Series II Bayonet Mount is identical to your camera's and attaches to the very same t-ring. Since the CVF  is a standalone device, no special modifications to your camera or other special adapters are ever needed.  The CVF Series II is at home in either prime focus or eyepiece projection photography and attaches normally to those adapters just like your camera.  Even larger camera lenses without a fixed infinity stop may also be attached directly to the CVF and pre-focused before attaching to the camera.  The CVF Series II  may also be attached and used  effectively with a microscope.

                       The CVF attaches exactly like your camera does

Note: Series IV 'Stiletto' owners should be aware that the modular camera mounts used in the Series IV may also be used in the CVF Series II.  For those interested in purchasing both a Series IV 'Stiletto' and CVF Series II focuser, please refer to the CVF Pricing section below for a money-saving Super Package..
