Series IV 'Stiletto' Focusers for Medium Format  

Since the introduction of the Series IV knife-edge focuser for  35mm SLR cameras, we were overwhelmed by requests from professional astrophotographers around the world  to develop a unit to  function with  medium format cameras.  This was easier said than done. One of the main concerns was to retain the existing versatility of the Series IV,  while attempting to satisfy everyone's mounting requirements and understanding the peculiarities of medium format cameras.  After six months of development we found an effective solution to focus  which is guaranteed to make  life easier in the dark.  Series IV models are now available for the Pentax 67, Pentax 645, Kiev 60,  Hasselblad, and Mamiya 645.  Series IV Standard, Deluxe, and Professional Edition models are offered.  Click here for descriptions of these models.

Easy to Use, Fast, and Accurate

The Series IV is a self-contained unit.   Absolutely no modifications to your own camera are necessary and it is used out of the box.  It attaches to your  t-ring  or to our own  Series IV Multi-Adapter the same way your camera does now since the Series IV has an identical bayonet mount.   To achieve perfect focus,  this quick and simple 4-step swap-in, swap-out procedure is followed:

Main Features

*  Original Manufacturer Bayonet Mounts allow you to attach the Series IV MF normally to your t-ring or coma correctors.   Whichever way you are attaching your camera to your scope now, the Series IV focuser will swap in and out perfectly retaining the factory spec film-plane distance.  The Series IV  also retains the flexibility of allowing you to attach 35mm bayonet or CCD mounts so that you can use the focuser with other  cameras by simply purchasing an additional modular mount for that model. ( See Accessories)  You get the best of all worlds.

    

*  Interchangeable "Stiletto" Assemblies  with ronchi screen resolutions from 100 - 300  lines per inch, with 180 lines per inch being the resolution shipped with the Series IV Standard model.. Our 300 line/inch 'Black Chrome' high resolution screen is included in the Professional Edition along with a carrying case.   If lower resolution gratings are preferable for some of your applications, other screens may be snapped in and snapped out at will with no recalibration necessary. Our True Knife Edge Accessory also installs transparently.

        

*  Adjustable Helical Screen Assemblies  are standard which permit the photographer to exactly match the film distance plane of the focuser to his own main camera.  Although the film plane distance is shipped calibrated to the factory spec for your camera, this permits you to match the film plane of your specific camera to the focuser by simply turning the ronchi assembly in its helical mount.  This may necessary due to  the large film area and the way it lays in your particular camera.  You can tweak your focus to your satisfaction.

                                         

*Swivel Mounted Collimateable Diagonal Assembly for more comfortable viewing and focusing.  Adjustable through 360 degrees for comfortable positioning with the turn of your wrist.  A magnifying transfer lens in the diagonal produces a large, visible starlight pattern. Includes a high quality 25mm plossl eyepiece which is parfocal.
 

* Solid Construction Materials are used throughout.  The body is manufactured of die-cast aluminum with a strong black texturized finish. 

* Attachment to Your Existing T-Ring or Corrector that you use with your MF right now to guarantee perfect focus each time, every time!  Other focusers that rely on threading to adapters and adapting rings result in unreliable focusing.   If you are using a coma corrector to attach your camera now, the Series IV MF will attach to it also.

* Compatible with 120 and 220 Film so that there is no need to recalibrate the focuser for thicker films. Once in focus, the Series IV is always in focus for any film since the Stiletto assembly is always at the proper focusing distance.
